Titanic

The RMS Titanic sank on 15 April 1912, in the North Atlantic Ocean while on its maiden voyage, travelling from South Hampton, UK to New York, USA.

The number of fatalities is uncertain due to several reasons including:
  • Double counting caused by people using aliases
  • The final passenger list not having been updated to account for every person who cancelled their trip

Another reason for inconsistent data, is that some people died (as a result of injuries or exposure) after they were picked up by the rescue ship (the RMS Carpathia).
